Plastering

Gypsum Plasters

Utilising products from British Gypsum, Knauf, Siniat among others we have taken many clients perception of plastering to new levels. Projects ranging from multi coat “float & set” forming shaped elements in curves and arches through to adding aggregates to multi finish plaster creating a Lime effect.

Gypsum has a role to play in modern contemporary construction elements providing ease of application, fast setting times, versatility in form and function. Application onto modern substrates of plasterboard, insulating blockwork, brickwork concrete and even waterproof concrete to basements are achieved seamlessly.

Lime and Putty Plasters

Plastering in Lime is a passion we have, generally projects are completed for reasons of necessity to restore and conserve historic buildings of value for generations past, present & future however some lime finishes are also generating interest due to the “breathability” the natural permeable material possesses.

Lime products can assist in providing sustainable finishes with reduced impact on our climate and ecology. Insulating lime plasters too assist in the reduction of use of chemically refined and manufactured PIR or Phenolic insulations.

The range of finishes achievable with Lime based plasters appears to be limitless, coarse aggregate textures, fine grained trowelled or wood float surfaces to smooth undulating relaxing cob or contemporary plumb, straight, true, sharp defined elements and more …

In partnership with Lime Centre Winchester, Tellings, Rose of Jericho, Best of Lime, St. Astier, Lime Green, Mike Wye Ltd. and others we have a supply chain to support us in completing exemplary finishes.

Lime plaster is a type of plaster composed of sand, water, and lime, usually non-hydraulic hydrated lime (also known as slaked lime, high calcium lime or air lime). Ancient lime plasters often contained horse hair for reinforcement and pozzolan additives to reduce the working time.

Traditional non-hydraulic hydrated lime only sets through carbonatation when the plaster is kept moist and access of CO2 from the air is possible. It will not set when submersed in water. When a very thick layer or several layers are applied, the lime can remain soft for weeks.

Lime plaster sets up to a solid mass that is durable yet flexible. Lime plaster is not as hard as cement plaster. Cement based plaster would typically be in the region of up to 10 times harder than Lime plaster.

Lime plasters are less affected by water and will not soften or dissolve like gypsum plaster. Unlike gypsum or clay plasters, lime plasters are sufficiently durable and resistant to the elements to be used for exterior plastering.

Lime plaster is permeable and allows for the diffusion and evaporation of moisture. The elevated pH of the lime in the plaster acts as a fungicide, preventing mould from growing.

Dry Lining & Metal framing

System dry lining and metal framing from the big three in the industry of British Gypsum, Knauf and Siniat are all available to us from the mainstream supply chains of builders merchants such as Travis Perkins, Covers, Buildbase or specialists such as CCF and SIG.

Following the manufacturers designed systems we are fluent in the construction of partitions, shaftwall, wall lining as well as MF suspended deck ceilings with services voids and passages. Erected to specific details to meet deflection and structural requirements, fire resistance, sound absorption, acoustic reflection along with systems intended for harsh environments such as swimming pools, steam rooms, saunas and gymnasiums.

Walls and Ceilings can be insulated and lined with many products from basic plasterboards through to tile backer, aqua panels, Wedi boards or provided with additional robustness with plywood and OSB backings.

Cornice and fibrous plaster mouldings

Finishing touches applied to both Lime and Gypsum can be formed readily in plaster of paris or fibrous mouldings, everything from staff bead details, cove, cornice, ceiling roses and even recesses to accommodate hidden LED lighting .

Reproduction of bespoke details from period and listed properties can be formed off site for repairs and restoration with details sampled and patterned from in situ profiles.
